It's been a long winter. Also: it's been a long spring.
This is the coldest spring I can remember. Tomorrow it will be May, and there is snow in our yard, and the trees are refusing to bud. I am longing for green and for blossoms and for balmy air, but everything is still brown and bitter.
What does one do whilst in the clutches of endless dark cold? Besides go insane, of course. In my case, I took up a hobby-within-a-hobby: freelensing. I could only take so many photos of my red-cheeked children shivering in the wintry cold before it became old, so when I stumbled upon a new thing to try with my camera, I jumped at the chance.
These free lensed photos reflect the spring I have had: while it is dense with shivering and heavy skies and dirty snow, there are bursts of colour and life within it - my children, oblivious to the disappointment of a late spring, splashing in puddles and pushing wind-swept hair from their eyes. Snuggling in bed if we cannot face the swirling cold drizzle. Taking advantage of that one warm(ish) afternoon of milky sunlight. We are surviving spring.
May is beginning with this new endeavour - a freelensing blog circle I have been invited to join and am humbled and excited to be a part of. If my photos are even a fraction as wonderful as those of the ladies involved in this group, I will be a happy photographer.
